“I should probably go.” Danny said, setting his empty wine glass down on the table. “I’ve got an early start in the morning.”
Standing up Danny straightened out his shirt and adjusted his tie. It had loosened during the night and the top of his toned chest was revealed. Much to Danny’s delight he had spotted Gary’s eyes drop to that small patch of exposed flesh more then once. It was working.
Gary stood also, slightly wobbly on his legs from the amount of wine they had consumed. Danny was a good laugh; Gary couldn’t understand why they had not seen each other for so long.
“Of course.” Gary said. “Well you have my number so um… call me sometime, it was nice to see you.”
Danny held his gaze. “You too.”
Both men walked to the door. Danny turned and held out his arms. “Nice talking Gaz.”
Gary returned his hug and was mortified to feel a jolt of desire hit him in the stomach. He swallowed. How much wine had he had? Danny stood back and looked at him before walking out the door. Gary shut the door hastily and leaning his back against it slid down the wood.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck.” He mumbled into his hands. Danny was attractive; there was no denying that. But that was all it was… I mean sure Gary had… felt something… but that was because he was human. I mean everyone is allowed to find someone else attractive? It didn’t mean anything… What he felt for Mark was strong and powerful. For Danny he simply felt a small amount of desire.
A shower. That’s what he needed. A nice relaxing shower and then Mark would be here and it would all be okay. Standing up Gary walked up the stairs and undressed in silence. His house was eerily quiet… now the baby was gone, now Danny was gone and now Mark was gone. Gary wasn’t sure he liked living alone. Sure he’d lived by himself for years, but now he’d tasted… tasted what it would be like to live beside someone. Those soft noises, a breath, a footstep, a laugh… something to prove he was not alone in the house.
Stepping into the shower Gary turned the hot water on, placing his under head underneath the flow of water so it ran over his face and hair. He felt better underneath the water even though it was flowing into his eyes. His head felt clearer. Hmm, he certainly wasn’t one for drinking, he preferred a clear head.
Squinting his eyes shut he shoved his hand out of shower and fumbled around for a towel. Shit. All the towels were on the other side of the bathroom. Grumbling he was just about to get out of the shower, his eyes still shut, when a towel was thrust into his open palm. Doing a double take and nearly falling over Gary hastily dried his eyes.
Mark stood in front of him, his arms, covered in his leather jacket were folded, but he was smiling.
Gary stared at him. “Mark? What… I mean… what? Oh God… I’m naked… shit.” Gary hastily wrapped the towel around his waist.
Well atleast he tried to. Mark caught the end of the towel and pulled it from his grasp. Slinging it to the other side of the bathroom Mark raised an eyebrow.
Gary cleared his throat. “I’d really rather prefer… we talk things through when I’m not… um… naked.”
Mark shook his head. “Quite to the contrary Gaz, if this relationship is going to work you need to stop being so British… you need to tell me you love me and you need to be naked far more often than you currently are.”
Gary stared at him open mouthed. “How did you even get in?”
Marks face turned serious. “You left the door open after Danny left… Jesus Gary you know I hate that guy.”
Gary felt suddenly guilty. It was true, he did know how much Mark despised Danny, he may not know why… but he shouldn’t of let him in. Let alone drunk so much with him, let alone found him attractive…
“I know… I’m sorry…” Gary bit his lip.
Mark let his gaze rake over Gary’s skin, his eyes were hungry now, he was fed up with their drama, he was fed up with Gary, and himself, constantly turning themselves into victims. He wanted Gary in his life; he knew Gary wanted him to… It was time Mark stopped being so feeble, so victimized and time he took what he deserved.
“Tell me you wont leave me again.” Mark said, desperately trying to keep the tremble out of his voice. He caught Gary’s gaze and held it.
Gary looked back at Mark. “I…”
Silence ensued. Mark could feel his heart hammering. The water was still flowing over Gary’s back. Mark swallowed… blinked… twitched. He became acutely aware of his breathing. You always do in tense situations… it sounded far to loud in the silence of the bathroom. In and out… Oh god he was aware of it now. Now it felt awkward to breath. Perhaps he should hold his breath? Nope… that was weirder. God damnit cant Gary just spit it o-
“I wont ever leave you again.” Gary finally said. It was strange… but Gary meant it. Of course he’d had to think about it, I mean he was essentially promising he would spend the rest of his life with Mark… Unless Mark left him. Which was a possibility, Gary knew that. But he didn’t care. Okay so yes, sometimes he found other people attractive. That was not a crime… But he would always be in love with Mark. That was startlingly clear.
“Now tell me you love me.” Mark said quietly. “And mean it.”
This wasn’t the Mark that Gary knew… this was a new Mark. An assertive Mark who knew what he wanted, who was demanding what he wanted. In fact it was kind of… sexy.
Gary smiled. “I love you… and I mean it… and I promise to tell you more often.”
Mark nodded, smiling too now. “Okay… I’ll let you off. But you’re lucky because I was going to make you dance for me.”
Gary laughed. “I can bust a move or two.”
Mark winced. “Don’t ever say that again.” He grinned. “I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too.”
Unzipping his leather jacket Mark slid it off his shoulders and let it fall to the floor. Then stepping out of his shoes he stepped under the shower.
“Your clothes are getting all wet.” Gary said, wide eyed.
“I don’t care.” Mark said and with that he slid his arm around Gary’s neck and pulled him towards him. For the first time in a good while their lips met once again and both their bodies almost sighed with the relief of being in each other’s arms again. Neither of them liked to play into a cliché but it was almost like whilst they’d been apart something heavy had weighed on both their shoulders and now… it was lifted. Now they both felt as if they were free again.
“I love you.” Gary said again, this time against Mark’s lips. God it felt good to say it. Why on earth didn’t he say it more often? It felt so right… it was right. He did love him. So much so he felt a strange urge to run to the window and shout it out to the world.
Gary felt Mark smile against him. Pulling Mark’s sodden shirt over his head Gary threw it out onto the floor. Next to go were his jeans. Thoroughly soaked through by now. They would take an age to dry. It struck Gary that Mark hadn’t actually brought any other clothes. Mark would have to wander around naked whilst his clothes dried… damn, that would be a shame…
***
The next morning Gary leant back against the pillows on his bed, he was still blushing over what had happened between him and Mark. I mean… it had been so long since he had been with someone like that… like um… intimately. He felt good… like all his muscles had turned to liquid. But he was also ridiculously embarrassed. Howard and Jason were coming over for lunch… what if they noticed? Did one look differently afterwards? Smell differently? He was certainly a lot more flushed than usual…
Mark walked back in through the door, a cup of coffee in his hand. He smiled.
“Good morning.” He said, setting the coffee down beside Gary.
“Do you think that Howard and Jay will notice?” Gary asked, still unable to quite look Mark in the eye.
“Notice what?” Mark said, raising an eyebrow.
“You know…” Gary knitted his fingers together. “What um… happened between us…”
Mark grinned. “That we spent a good part of the night making love?”
Gary cleared his throat and blushed again. “Um… yes…”
Mark rolled his eyes. Typical Gary response. Without even dignifying that with an answer Mark pressed his lips back against Gary’s. Gary soon once again relaxed against Mark… hmm… Mark’s lips did seem to have that peculiar effect. He would remember that for later dates, should Gary ever be angry with him again he would simply kiss him and Gary seemed to instantly relax.
***
Mark and Gary sat slack mouthed staring at the people sat before them. Howard and Jason, tanned from their time away, were sitting next to Laura whose hair was tied in a loose ponytail. Kennedy, Chloe and Sue were all sat next to Laura their faces beaming.
“Guys?” Jason said.
Gary and Mark stared back at them, their mouths still open.
Laura waved a slim hand in front of Mark’s eyes. “Markie?”
Mark blinked… once… twice. Then a slow grin began to spread across his lips. Shaking his head once he leaped up and pulled Howard, Jason and Laura into a hug so tight Laura thought her head was going to implode.
“Oh Jesus, you guys! I am so happy! I mean, when, what?” Mark grinned at them all.
“Well we all have a meeting at the fertility clinic next week and if everything goes all right, Jay and myself will make our donations and through insemination we all pray Laura gets pregnant.” Howard grinned.
Kennedy stood up and pulled Laura into a hug. “Its so great for you to do this.”
“It really is.” Chloe nodded. “Oh my god, I can’t wait… a little baby added to the clan!”
Gary stood up and grabbing Sue’s hand pulled her into the hug as well. “You bastereds are going to make me cry.” He said wrapping his arm round Mark’s waist.
Sue rushed off to phone Robbie and invite him round. Jason, his arm around Laura, sat back down on the sofa. Howard and Gary were chatting in the corner and Mark and Chloe were arguing over baby names. Laura watched them all, her hand subconsciously slipping to her flat belly. Soon it would be big and round, carrying a child that would not be hers. She was happy, of course she was, she wanted to give Jason and Howard a baby. But she was terrified; there was no denying it. A wave of nausea crossed over her and her eyes filled with tears. Holding a hand to her face she rushed off to the toilets. Gary looked up just to see her pass, he was the only one to spot the tears running off her chin, frowning he set his tea down on the table and followed her out.

Howard curled his fingers around Jason’s. They were lying side by side, the sheets were twisted around them, it was dark in the room, the air hot and heavy. Howard’s breath was still coming out fast as he planted a kiss on Jason’s ear. It wasn’t long before they were to go home, Howard would miss the heat but he was looking forward to seeing the boys again.
Jason rolled over onto his side and curled his hand around Howard’s so they were facing each other. Jason smiled. In the almost darkness Howard’s eyes were such a deep green Jason could almost feel himself getting lost. Reaching up Jason ran his hand down the side of Howard’s face and stroked his neck softly.
“Will we always be this in love?” Jason said smiling.
Howard laughed quietly. “No… we’ll hate each other sometimes then we’ll have fantastic make up sex and we’ll fall in love all over again.”
Jason grinned and kissed Howard. “I can’t imagine I’ll stay angry as these lips for very long.”
“They are pretty hot.” Howard teased.
Jason looked down at the ring at his finger. They had been welcomed warmly in Greece, on the beaches and in the hotel… he certainly preferred the Greek’s to the British. Howard and Jason sometimes got dirty looks walking around in London together, and even once been called names from across the streets. Howard and Jason didn’t care all that much, but the Greek’s had simply beamed at them when they walked together hand in hand. Flower stalls had even given them free flowers, they got drinks on the house and the manager at the hotel had even upgraded their room.
Howard ran his finger over Jason’s forehead, nose and finally to his lips. Howard couldn’t wait to get home and begin their lives together, they were married now… it was so official.
“So… what next?” Howard grinned. “We’re married now, where will our relationship go next?”
Jason smiled. To be truthful Jason had wanted to have this conversation with Howard because well… Although he had never mentioned it before… he wanted to be a dad someday. Especially with Howard. Jason had always longed for a baby, a little girl or boy he could dote over.
Jason cleared his throat. “I don’t know I mean… maybe someday we’ll have kids and stuff.”
“Do you want a baby Jay?” Howard said, his eyes growing suddenly intense, the humour left from his face.
Jason pulled Howard’s hand tighter around his. “Yeah… I mean someday… I thought we could use a surrogate… I mean it would cost a lot and take a lot of time but I want to be a dad with you.”
Howard smiled, not his usual teasing smile but a real smile. “I want to be a dad with you too.”
Jason’s heart hammered in his chest. “So…. is that a yes?”
Howard leaned forward and kissed Jason again, briefly closing his eyes. “Of course… when we get home we’ll look into it… although it sounds like you’ve certainly been thinking about it.” Howard’s teasing smile returned.
Jason blushed. “Shut up… Although if we have a girl I do like the name Esme.”
Howard laughed. “Sorry are we getting a baby or adopting an 80 year-old?”
Jason hit Howard lightly on the arm. “Shut your mouth smart arse.” He grinned.
Their mouths met again and Howard shifted a little closer to Jason. Jason’s mobile began to chime. Sitting up Jason flicked the light on. ROBBIE flashed up on the screen, Jason tapped answer.
“Rob.” He said smiling. “How’s it going mate?”
“I hope I not interrupted anything, I know what you two are bloody like.” Robbie laughed down the phone.
“Well now you mention it…” Jason started.
“Nah, I don’t care, don’t tell me you’d rather get naked with your husband than talk to your old friend Rob?” Robbie teased.
“Of course not, so hows things back there?” Jason grinned at Howard who stuck his bottom lip out in mock pout.
“I just got off the phone with Mark… he’s going to talk to Gary tonight about everything… I wish those two would fucking sort it out… so much bloody drama.”
Jason bit his lip. “What did Mark say?”
“He said he wasn’t sure anymore… he couldn’t bare it if Gary left him again, I’ve talked him into giving a go but it all sounds very fragile.”
“Jesus, well let me know if you hear anything more from Mark, hows Kate?”
“She’s beautiful as always, she’s asleep, I’m in the bathroom, I wasn’t tired so I thought I’d ring and see how the honey moon was going.” Robbie stood and looking through the bathroom door. Kate was curled up wearing only her underwear, well if one could call it underwear, looked more like two pieces of string to Robbie. He grinned.
The boys said their boys after Robbie briefly chatted to Howard. Placing his phone back on the table beside the bed Jason settled back into Howard’s arms.
“I cant wait to tell the boys… it will be nice to have a baby in the band.” Jason said sleepily.
“Yeah.” Howard said softly into Jason’s hair. “It will.”
***
Gary paced up and down his living room, the sky was dark outside. Surely Mark wouldn’t be that longer? He looked down at his watch, sighed and rubbed his hands together. Mark and himself had spent over a week apart… perhaps they could talk things through tonight. That’s what Gary hoped anyway, Gary wasn’t sure how he felt. He knew he loved Mark, with all that he was but it wasn’t always that easy. You can love someone and yet not be able to be together… Gary didn’t know.
Sitting on the edge of his sofa he stared around the room. Photo’s littered the walls, him and the boys, him and his dogs, accepting various awards… He’d lived a life that so full… adventure, money, adrenaline, business, success and failure. Yet Gary felt his life was somewhat unlived. He never had time for love; he had time for brief flings that ended always in heartbreak. He’d had time for one-night stands that always turned into a disaster, but he’d sat down and just been in love. When him and Mark were together Gary felt like he had all the time in the world to be in love, and Gary had blown it. Like he blew everything because in the end he always put his work first.
Standing up Gary walked over to his walls and one by one pulled his awards off, he took down the photo’s of him and various celebrities, he tore down his platinum records until the walls were bare but a few photos of the boys. Fetching a box from the kitchen he placed all his awards carefully inside and poked it under the sofa. Gary didn’t want tonight to be about work, he didn’t want to look around and be reminded of all the things he had had to forfeit to get to where he was… he wanted to be in love with Mark, he wanted to feel normal. Just two guys in love, not two superstars.
Tonight was about emotion. Tomorrow would be about music, Gary would never give up music, no matter what the cost, he loved his fans more than he’d ever loved anyone else. Music was his passion and… well he was pretty damn good at it. However Gary accepted that he needed to spend a little more time on his personal life, Mark meant a lot to him as well.
The doorbell chimed. Gary’s heart lurched into his throat. Composing himself he opened the door.
Danny’s grinning face beamed at him from the doorstep. Dark blond hair falling slightly over one deep green eye, his hands thrust into the pockets of his suit. Danny had worked next to Gary during his solo years, a talented pianist and songwriter.
“Danny.” Gary said, surprised. “What are you doing here?”
Danny shrugged his wide shoulders. “I was in the neighborhood, thought I’d see how Gaz was getting on… Wow, did I really just say ‘I was in the neighborhood’? That was lame.”
Gary stared at him. Christ he hadn’t seen Danny for years… the last time he remember seeing him was at Jason’s 30th where Danny had had a huge fight with… Mark. Gary couldn’t recall what the fight had been about but it had been big enough he hadn’t seen Danny for a good 10 years.
“So… can I come in?” Danny asked, raising his eyebrows.
Gary shut his mouth abruptly, which had been hanging open for a good minute. He cleared his throat. “Of course.” Gary stepped out the way… He was sure Danny would be gone by the time Mark came. What harm could one drink do?
Danny followed Gary into his lounge. “Where’s all your awards?” Danny smiled. “I thought you’d be showing them off.”
Gary poured Danny some wine and handed it over. “I um… just took them down actually, just for a day or two…”
Danny nodded. “So how’ve you been? Great news about Howard and Jay… I um… I read about Mark’s accident.”
Gary stiffened. “It was a difficult time.”
Danny took a step closer. “I am sure it was… is he… fully recovered?”
Gary thought back to all the times him and Mark had spent wrapped around each other. He blushed. “Yes, he is definitely on his way.”
“You guys always had a special connection.” Danny smiled again; it was a warm smile as he sat down in one of the chairs.
“Yeah he’s on his way over actually.” Gary said slowly, the fight had been so long ago; surely it wouldn’t matter to them now?
Gary was wrong. Mark wasn’t on his way over; Mark was stood outside in the dark, his hand poised over the doorbell when he’d heard their voices. Curiosity was what lead him round the side to the big window facing into Gary’s lounge. Mark felt like he had been punched in the stomach, he’d come all the way over to talk things through with Gary and here Gary was sat drinking wine with a man Mark despised. His chest hurt, the scar across it almost aching. Turning on his heel he walked away, he wanted to be as far away from that house as he could. He couldn’t do this, he couldn’t have his heart ripped to pieces all the god damned time. Picking up his phone he dialed Kennedy’s number.

“Oh thank you so much Gaz! Seriously, I don’t know what I would of done!” Sue slapped her forehead with relief. “So I’ll be back in like 5 hours okay, are you going to be alright?”
Gary looked down at the little baby girl, Lola, that had been placed in his arms. Big brown eyes stared back at him. Sue needed him to look after her little niece just for a few hours because she had a doctor’s appointment. Well, how hard could it be? She was so little, what problems could something that small cause?
“We’ll be fine.” Gary smiled. “Take as long as you need.”
Sue hugged him and kissed Lola’s little forehead. “Thanks again Gaz, nappies are in the big bag and milk is in the little bags!”
Gary closed the door behind her and walked to the kitchen. “We’ll be fine wont we Lola? Eh? We’ll be fine wont we sweetheart.” Gary smiled at Lola as he set her down in her chair which Gary had set on the table.
Lola grinned at him, showing off two little teeth protruding from her front gums.
“Ah yes we will, ah yes we will.” Gary cooed playing with Lola’s little fingers as they curled around his thumb. Gary sighed. It must be nice being a baby, he thought, no worries, relationships, everything still so fascinating and beautiful. His eyes flickered over to his phone, he hadn’t spoken to Mark since the wedding. His stomach twisted uncomfortably.
“Ahhh… Eeeeeeehhh…” Lola kicked her little feet up in the air. Gary smiled, he’d like to have kids one day. He had always imagined himself teaching his daughters to sing, his sons to play the piano… Going to their sports days, watching them grow. He had always imagined someone by his side the whole way, someone to grow old with. Mark would make a great dad, Gary thought, he was so attentive and caring. His shoulders slumped, God he missed him.
“Maaaaa…Oooooh.” Lola let his thumb go and looked round the room, her eyes taking in the colors and movement.
Standing up Gary picked Lola up from her chair and took her into the lounge where his piano sat proudly in the middle of the room.
“How about a song eh Lola?” He said, sitting her in the crook of his arm. Lola stared up at him and then back at the piano, letting out a short laugh she smacked her little palm down on the keys. Gary laughed.
“Very nice.” He said, setting his fingers on the keys he began to play some soft chords. Lola gargled and smiled as he began to play. “Isn’t she lovely… isn’t she wonderful… isn’t she precious… less than one minute old…” Gary sang, rocking his arm from side to side. “I never thought through love we’d be… making one as lovely as she…”

Howard walked back into his hotel room, his towel tied around his waist. The weather had been beautiful all day in Greece where Jason and himself were staying for their honeymoon. Howard had left Jason sleeping to have a swim whilst everyone else was napping in the midday heat. Bunch of wimps, Howard thought, his body thrived in the heat of his surroundings, he needed not to cower in the shade.
“Hello.” Jason said greeting him with a kiss and a smile. “Robbie just phoned, sounds like things are really getting serious with Kate, I have never seen him stay with a woman so long.”
Howard smiled and sat back down on the bed. “Well, she’s beautiful, funny, smart and the perfect match for Rob intellectually.”
“This is true, well I wish them the best… its Gary and Mark I am worried about.” Jason said sitting next to Howard. “They haven’t spoken in what would now be 9 days… Neither of them are particularly good at saying sorry.”
Howard sighed and rubbed his face with his hands. “I’m sure they’ll sort it out, those two were meant for each other… plus they are going to have to sort it out if we are going to start work on the album.”
Jason nodded. He hoped they would soon be okay, they had spent so long not knowing how the other felt and now finally when they were together it all got to much and they were on some kind of break. Jesus Christ but those two could make some drama.
“I’m going to have a shower.” Jason announced, standing up.
“Alone?” Howard grinned pulling him back down and kissing him.
Jason laughed. “Now where on earth is the fun in showering alone?” Taking Howard’s hand he pulled him into the bathroom, sliding the lock into place after them.

Gary sat down in his kitchen, exhausted. Lola was sleeping soundly in the lounge, Gary had fed her, gotten most of the formula all over himself and what he hadn’t spilt Lola had spat up on his back. He’d had to sing most of the Beatles top songs to get her to sleep… but he had loved every minute of it. Every now and again he was rewarded with a huge baby grin. Walking back to the lounge, Gary sat quite down next to Lola. Her little chest rose and fell gently, her tiny fists curled and little head resting soundly to the side. Smiling he reached out and gently brushed his finger over her round cheeks. Leaning back against the sofa, he let his eyes drift closed… Christ he was tired…
Gary didn’t know what woke him first, Lola’s piercing cry or his front door bell. Leaping up from the sofa he looked panicked at Lola, what on earth was making her cry like that? Gary picked her up but she continued to cry, kicking her little fat legs her face bright red in colour. The doorbell rang again.
“Oh bloody hell.” Gary swore, trying his best to jiggle Lola up and down in his arms he walked to the door. Hitching the screaming baby higher on his hip he opened the door with the other hand.
Mark stood on his doorstep and Gary almost dropped Lola. Stopping himself at the last minute he cradled her closer. Lola continued to cry, her little eyes squinted shut.
“Mark… What… um… what are you doing here?” Gary said, his heart hammering in his chest.
“I was hoping we could err…. Talk.” Mark said, staring at the baby in Gary’s arms. “Whats with the screaming child?”
“She’s Sue’s little niece… she must of woke with a fright or something because she will not stop crying… do you… want to come in?” Gary swallowed, he was having to shout slightly to be heard over Lola’s cries.
Mark stepped into the hall and followed Gary back to his kitchen.
“Do you want me to try?” Mark said holding out his arms.
Gary passed him Lola gratefully. Mark stared into those big, tear filled brown eyes.
“Hey there little one… whats wrong then? Oh baby girl… Shhh…” Mark rocked Lola from side to side. The screaming stopped. The silence felt strange. Lola stuck her thumb in her mouth.
Gary let out a sigh of relief. “Jesus Christ, thank you…”
The two men stared at each other. Mark had forgotten how good-looking Gary was… even with what appeared to be baby sick over his clothes. Gary had forgotten how much he missed Mark’s calming presence.
“Mmmm… ahhhhhhhhh…” Lola reached out her little hand towards Gary. Gary stepped forward and let Lola grab his fingers again. Mark became aware of how close they were stood, he took a deep breath. Gary looked from the baby in Mark’s arms and then at Mark. This is what he wanted… a family with Mark… not now, but in the future he could see himself with no one else.
Mark was avoiding Gary’s gaze. He had came over on a whim, hoping him and Gary could talk things through… but now Mark wasn’t so sure. His heart still felt broken from what Gary had said at the wedding. How could he be sure Gary wasn’t just going to leave him again? Mark wasn’t sure he could bare watching Gary walk away for the second time.
“Maybe this isn’t the best time…” Mark said looking down. “I mean I can see your busy.”
Gary swallowed. Had he blown it with Mark?
“Come back tonight?” Gary said. “I want… I want to talk to you properly…”
Mark placed the baby back in Gary’s arms. “Yeah… tonight.” And with that he turned around and left.
Gary heard the door shut behind him. Lola laid her head against his shoulder. Grabbing the nappy bag Gary walked back into the lounge.
Anyway, thankyou so much for reading this! So much love for you guys ^.^ Enjoy! xx
The room fell into awful silence. Mark stood at the doorway still panting, he’d ran the entire way after waking up late.
“What are you on about?” Gary demanded, anger rising in his chest. Seriously? So Mark was late and he had interrupted the vows?
Mark walked hastily up the aisle. “I didn’t want to do this in front of everyone, but Jason you left me no choice, Howard deserves to know.”
Gary threw his hands up in the air. “Know about what? For Christ sake Mark this isn’t a fucking soap opera.”
Howard looked at Jason. Jason raised his hands. “I have no idea what he’s talking about!”
“Jason is having an affair.” Mark said plainly. “I heard him on the phone and last night his room was empty, then later I saw someone leave his room in disguise.”
Howard felt like he had been punched in the stomach. His head felt light, oh god, he hoped he wouldn’t feint. Gasps sounded all around the hall, the vicar cleared his throat uncomfortably. Gary grabbed Howard’s arm, he didn’t know why, instinct told him it was the right thing to do. No one’s reacted compared to Jason’s though. His fists were curled, his teeth gritted.
“Seriously? You thought I was having a fucking affair? You ruined my wedding not even on any hard evidence? Do you want to know who I was talking to?” Jason thundered. “I flew Howard’s very best friend who he hasn’t seen for 10 years, Pippa and her sister Sophie all the way over from America, they are waiting to surprise him in the party hall, I wasn’t in my room last night because the girls wanted to see London and they left in disguise so Howard wouldn’t fucking run into them.”
Jason turned to Howard. “Surprise. Happy fucking wedding day, I would never cheat on you Howard, I love you, you know that.”
Howard nodded, tears filling his eyes, he took Jason’s hand. “I know that, I love you too.”
Mark stood there. Oh god, he’d fucked up. He’d really, really fucked up. He’d thought he was doing the right thing by stopping the wedding, he thought he was going to be the good guy. It was hitting him that he’d just ruined his best friend’s wedding.
“I’m… oh god, guys I am so sorry… I thought… I don’t know what I thought… I’m so sorry.” Mark spluttered, taking a desperate step towards both of them.
Howard put his hand on Mark’s arm. “Mark… its fine, it shows you care I suppose, just maybe next time ensure that your right.” Howard smiled a little. “I don’t think its us your going to need to make this up too…”
Mark turned around, Gary stared at him long and hard in the face before turning on his heel and slamming the big wooden doors behind him.
***
Mark found Gary outside, sat on the concrete wall, staring out over the fields that surrounded the stately home Gary had picked for the wedding. He’d liked it because it was quiet… not very well known and yet old and beautiful in its own right. They’d escaped the paparazzi to get here, Gary hadn’t wanted the wedding to be interrupted by anyone. He’d wanted it to be quiet, no drama yet spectacular.
Mark sat down quietly next to him. Mark hadn’t known what had been going through his head whilst he had been running towards the wedding ceremony, he’d woken up late and panicked. He just hadn’t wanted Howard to marry someone if they had been cheating, it would break Howard inside.
“I’m sorry.” Gary said quietly.
Mark jerked up his eyebrows in surprise. “What are you apologizing for? I’m the one that ruined the wedding you’ve been working so hard on.”
“I’m sorry being so crap recently, I’m sorry I left you last night to take a call, I’m sorry I don’t tell you I love you enough.” Gary said, not looking at Mark and instead keeping his eyes on the grounds before him.
Mark could hardly believe what was happening. Gary was apologizing? Jesus, that made him feel even worse about the whole thing.
“No, I’m sorry.” He said. “I acted out without meaning to, I just panicked you know.”
Gary’s heart hammered in his chest. His head hurt with unshed tears, but Gary wasn’t a crier. He turned to look at Mark, green eyes met green eyes.
“I’m also sorry for what I’m about to say.” Gary said. “It’s not working for me… you and I being together.”
Mark’s throat closed up, he felt like his world was coming crashing down around him.
“What?” He said, pain lining his features.
“You deserve someone who is always there for you… not distant like me… and I… I deserve someone who knows how much this wedding meant to me.” With that Gary stood and began to walk away, with every step he took his heart broke a little bit more. He couldn’t believe the words that were coming out of his mouth, like nothing he else he wanted to turn around and kiss Mark and tell him he was only joking, but his feet forced him forward. Further away.
Mark ran after him, grabbing his arm. “You cant leave me… we worked so hard to get here, don’t tell me you are coward enough to break everything we have without even talking it through like adults… if you want a break… fine… but you cant leave me for good, you just cant.” Mark felt like someone had shoved their hand down his throat and ripped his heart out, he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“We both need a break.” Gary said.
Mark let his hand drop from Gary’s arm and watched as Gary walked away. From inside the hall Mark could hear the applause as Jason and Howard were pronounced officially a civil partnership. Gary had said they were having a break. That meant they would get back together right? That had to be the way. Mark couldn’t do it alone. He turned around and watched through the window and Howard and Jason walked back down the aisle, hand in hand, smiling as people clapped. Like nothing else Mark needed his two best friends to talk to him about this… to tell him that everything was going to be okay. Mark watched as Pippa and Sophie ran screaming towards Howard, they embraced, both girls wiping tears from their eyes as they spoke excitedly to the newly married couple. Howard laughed and hugged them again. Swallowing his pain Mark walked back into the hall like nothing had happened.
***
Hours later after the celebrations, Jason stood in his and Howard’s suite. He looked down at the ring on his finger and smiled. He felt better about everything that had happened that day… okay so Mark ruined his surprise. Howard was still ecstatic that the girls were here. It was Sue and Nikki that had convinced him that everything was okay. The rest of the night had run smoothly, although Jason had seen neither Gary or Mark for the rest of the night… he felt sad that he had missed sharing his special day with his best friends but he supposed they needed to sort things out. Plus Robbie had been there, him and Kate showing off some very strange dance moves. Jason laughed quietly to himself. He was lucky to be surrounded by so many lovely people. He had danced with Rachel throughout the night, she even challenged him to a dance off. And won, by doing a fantastic robot. Although Jason insisted he had only been giving it 40%.
Howard opened the door to the suite. “Sorry that took so long, the girls had so much to tell me.” He smiled. “Women have a fantastic ability of talking so fast I barely got any of it.”
Jason smiled at his new ‘civil partner.’ It was a funny way of putting it, Howard was his husband in Jason’s eyes. His partner forever and always.
“Do you think we should see if Mark and Gary are okay?” Howard said looking concerned.
Jason shook his head. “No… they need to sort this out themselves… tonight is about us.”
Howard smiled. “Your right… come over here then.” Howard held out his hand.
Jason set his glass down on the table and took Howard’s hand. Howard drew him towards him and pressed his lips on Jason’s.
“Happy wedding day, I love you.” Howard said quietly.
Jason smiled and kissed him again. A smile spreading over his lips Jason wrapped his arms around Howard. Something felt different tonight between him and Howard… it was a like a new energy drawing them together. Even though they had been together for a good few years… tonight felt like they were right back to that very first time.
Howard’s hand drifted to Jason’s collar as he began to undo the buttons. Well atleast he attempted to anyway, only to find they appeared to have welded themselves shut. Howard stopped kissing Jason and attempted at the buttons again. Jason laughed.
“Seriously?” He said, still laughing.
“They have like welded shut!” Howard said grumpily. “You’d think for how expensive it was the buttons would fucking open… You’re going to have pull it over your head.”
Jason laughed again and raised his eyebrows. “It’s a shirt, it won’t get over my head.”
Howard sighed. “Well then I apologize, I hope this shirt didn’t mean to much to you.” And with that he took the collar and ripped the shirt clean from top to the bottom. Jason stared at his suddenly naked torso.
“Well that’s £600 out the window.” He muttered.
Howard grinned and pulled Jason back toward him. He could feel the warmth of Jason’s chest seeping through his own shirt, Jason’s hands were warm also as they successfully undid Howard’s shirt. Clothes began to hit the floor, Howard fumbled with the light switch and the room was plunged into almost darkness. The heat between him and Jason was almost unbearable, yet he delighted in the flames and the flickers of electricity that shot between them. Jason couldn’t help but thinking everything about Howard was perfect. He couldn’t keep the smile off his face as he pressed himself closer to Howard.
***
Sue, Rachel, Chloe, Kennedy and Nikki were all sat with their feet up, a glass of champagne in each of their hands.
“Christ my feet are killing me, bloody heels.” Grumbled Sue as she rubbed at her heel.
“I cant believe Jason and Howard are married… its so perfect.” Kennedy said taking a sip of her champagne.
“I am not one for romance particularly but even I cannot deny that those two were absolutely made for each other.” Rachel said grinning.
“Has anyone seen Mark or Gary?” Nikki asked, concern lining her features.
Chloe shook her head. “No… I suppose maybe they needed to talk stuff over… I mean Gary’s got to be pretty mad.”
Sue grimaced. “I hope they’re going to be okay… you know how passionate about stuff those two get.”
***
As Howard and Jason fell asleep in each other’s arms, their breath coming out raggedly, their hearts hammering against each other, Gary sat at his piano a pencil in his hand.
He scribbled at a piece of paper in front of him and played a few more chords. Nodding to himself he wrote something else down. Sitting back in his chair he sighed. Not even song writing was making him feel any better, his chest ached like nothing he’d ever experienced. He didn’t know how long he could stand being apart from Mark, oh God, what had he done? Gary ran his hands through his hair. He couldn’t live his life without Mark. He just couldn’t.
The room fell into awful silence. Mark stood at the doorway still panting, he’d ran the entire way after waking up late.

Laura settled down on to their hotel sofa and took a sip of her tea. It had been a long day of traveling and was struggling to keep her eyes open. She hated traveling. The chaos, the stress, the timing… It would be even worse when her and Ben had children. Looking down at her stomach Laura smiled, you could just about see the first swellings of a bump underneath her t-shirt. Ben and herself had been absolutely over the moon when they’d found out; they’d been waiting for a baby for so long.
“I wonder if Mark’s around anywhere.” Ben said as he walked in and settled beside his new wife. “I haven’t seen him since I got here.”
Laura swung her legs up onto his lap and leaned back against the sofa. “He’s probably with Gary.” Laura said.
Ben took her foot in one hand and rubbed it gently. “I doubt it, I could hear Gary shouting about flowers from all the way down the bloody hall.” He grinned.
Laura smiled sleepily. She had yet to actually meet Mark, her husband’s very best friend. Mark was always so busy, or Laura was traveling with her job. The wedding was their first opportunity to meet. Her work friends had gone positively giddy when they’d found out she was attending the Donald-Orange wedding and Mark Owen was going to be there! They’d all begged her to give him their numbers even though they knew they were barking up the wrong tree.
Laura’s eyes drifted closed and just as Ben leaned down to kiss her goodnight there was a loud banging on their hotel room door. Laura groaned.
“Tell whoever it is to go away.” She mumbled as Ben stood up to see who it was.
“Mark?” Ben said in surprise as he opened the door to find his best friend standing there. “What are you doing here?”
“Can I… stay with you guys tonight? Just on the sofa?” Mark said, his mouth set into a grim line.
Ben stepped out the way, confusing lining his features. “Of course, where’s Gary?”
Mark rolled his eyes. “Apparently he has more important things to do than be with me.”
Ben raised his eyebrows. Mark sighed. Mark didn’t know what he had expected to find when he had knocked on the door of Jason’s hotel room. Did he expect some 6-foot of tanned muscle in gold hot pants to answer the door? What Mark didn’t expect was for there to be no one there. After he had repeatedly knocked with no answer, Mark had tried the handle and finding the door unlocked had pushed it open. The hotel room was empty, Jason’s bag was left unpacked on the bed and when Mark had tried his mobile there had been no answer. Mark resolved that he would simply have to find Jason in the morning, hopefully before it was too late.
***
Gary slammed down his phone onto the counter beside the sink. Then realizing he hadn’t actually hung up, picked it up and pressed the stupid little red key. Good God but new mobile phones made it hard to hang up angrily. He missed the old phones, which you could really slam down to make your point. Switching his phone off, Gary opened the bathroom door cautiously. He planned to apologize to Mark and he hoped that they could pick up where they left off.
“Look I’m sorry, it’s just the stupid flow- Mark?” Gary stopped and stared at the empty bed before him. Mark’s clothes were gone. Gary sat down on the edge of the bed. Great. He had blown it.
Well, fine, thought Gary, if Mark wanted to walk out like a child instead of dealing with their problems like an adult then that was that. Gary was too tired to try and find him. Ignoring the pain that had settled in his belly, he laid his head against the pillow. It was cold in the room, instead of falling asleep in Mark’s arms, he was alone. Just like old times.
***
Jason stood staring out of the big bay windows, people were beginning the arrive, the venue filling with people from the boys and his own life. He smiled. Robbie, dressed in an expensive looking tux was busy chatting away to one of Howard’s family, Kate dressed in lilac silk dress hung off his arm smiling.
“Hey.” Kennedy’s voice sounded behind him. “How do you feel?” She smiled, laying her hand on his arm. She was dressed in the cream dresses that had been picked out in the end by Howard and Jason, after Gary tried to force them to wear a hideously lacy apricot dress.
“You look beautiful.” Jason said smiling. “And I feel… good. I’m marrying the man of my dreams, I’m happy.”
“Nervous for the wedding night?” Chloe said, grinning, joining them.
Jason laughed. “No, not at all… well it’s not our first time.” He grinned.
Kennedy looked at her watch. “Not long now, I’ll go get the guests.”
Turning on her heel she walked through the wooden doors and out into the foyer. Jason watched as the previously empty chairs began to fill with people.
Chloe pulled him into a big hug and went to join the other bridesmaids. “Good luck!” She mouthed.
Gary walked briskly in and stood beside Jason. Mark was late. Gary hadn’t even seen him this morning. Gary couldn’t believe Mark hadn’t even bothered to show up on time to the wedding Gary had slaved over. Gary wasn’t sure if he wanted to shout or cry… what he didn’t want was this wedding to be ruined by his relationship troubles.
Clapping Jason on the back he gave him the thumbs up. All systems go, Gary thought to himself as the music began. Gary had poured long and hard over the play list, Howard and Jason had wanted quiet music to be on throughout the ceremony. The big doors opened and Howard walked through just as the first chords of ‘(Everything I do) I do it for you’ Bryan Adams sung out softly over the stereo. Jason turned to Gary and smiled.
Look into my eyes, you will see… What you mean to me
Gary looked down at the floor then back to the empty space where Mark was supposed to be standing.
You know it's true… Everything I do, I do it for you
“Friends, family.” The vicar began. “We are here today to celebrate the love of Howard and Jason. Their love is special, their love is strong and they are here today to promise each other their love is forever. Love has no boundaries; it does not conform to what society tells it… Love is blind, love is imperfect, love is something to be celebrated.”
Take me as I am, take my life…I would give it all, I would sacrifice
“Howard and Jason have chosen to write their own vows… If you’d like to begin.” The vicar said smiling at Howard.
Howard took a deep breath. “When I was younger I struggled to always say what I wanted to say, nothing ever seemed right… nothing ever seemed complete.”
Don't tell me it's not worth fighting for, I can't help it, there's nothing I want more
Gary swallowed. Maybe he hadn’t been treating Mark right recently… he supposed he had made their relationship his second priority to the wedding. He couldn’t even remember the last time he had told Mark he loved him. God, thinking about it he wasn’t surprised Mark had walked away. But God, Gary needed him here. He wasn’t anything without Mark.
“From the first time you swaggered through those audition doors, wearing those frankly horrific trousers, I knew… I knew I’d found what I had been looking for. Yes it’s the biggest cliché in the book, but I can’t be with anyone else. You make me the man I am now; I don’t care what people think… I want to celebrate how much I love you with the world and listen carefully because this is the cheesiest thing I have ever said… I want to grow old with you, I want to share my life with you, I love you and my God I promise to love you forever.”
There's no love, like your love… And no other, could give more love
He had to find him. Gary had to find Mark, he had to get on his goddamned knees and beg for forgiveness, because he had truly been one hell of an arse hole to Mark recently.
Oh, you can't tell me it's not worth trying for… I can't help it, there's nothing I want more
Gary watched as Howard slid a ring onto Jason’s finger. The girls were already wiping tears from their eyes. He smiled to himself; the wedding was perfect… now he had to sort out his own life.
Look into your heart… You can't tell me it ain't worth dying for
Just as Gary turned on his heel, Mark came flying through the wooden doors, his tie hanging around his neck.
“Stop, stop everything.” Mark yelled. “Stop the wedding.”
Laura settled down on to their hotel sofa and took a sip of her tea. It had been a long day of traveling and was struggling to keep her eyes open. She hated traveling. The chaos, the stress, the timing… It would be even worse when her and Ben had children. Chapter 12
(Note from Author - here is part two! :) I am not sure if its any good as have been working so hard on GCSE's recently, only had like a spare hour to write it! Also everyone who has asked to be in it dont worry your parts will get bigger as the story progresses! I wont be able to include everyone each week but you will never be forgotten and I will make sure you all have a big part! I really hope you like it and all feedback is so appreciated :) @medsies_world)
Mark stared after Jason, his silhouette faded into the distance. From the very first moment that Jason had sauntered into that audition, Mark had always pegged him as an honest guy. Jason was down to earth, would never hurt a fly… he was the rock of the band; Mark relied on him for some sanity in the whirlwind of boy band life. He could not believe that Jason would hurt Howard like that. To sneak around with another man on the night before their wedding?
There had to be some mistake… surely Jason wouldn’t do such a thing. If Jason wanted to be with someone else he surely wouldn’t go through with the wedding? Mark ran his hand through his hair. Oh, god. Fuck. Shit. Mark had always seen Howard and Jason’s relationship as a picture of perfection, Gary and himself often said if they could be as happy as Jason and Howard were, years down the line they’d be satisfied.
Mark remembered the first time they’d spotted Jason and Howard kissing. The way, Mark, Gary and Robbie had stood agog watching them until Howard threw a shoe at them and told them to fuck off. He remembered how they would hold hands underneath the table at band meetings, the way they smile at each other. Perhaps nothing is ever as it seems.
“Ready to go?” Gary’s voice sounded behind him. “Our um… hotel room is ready, they err… didn’t have any doubles so we’ve got two single beds… they said they could push them together but I um… said I’d ask you.”
Briefly forgetting what he had just witness Mark grinned at Gary’s red face. He wondered if Gary would always be this damn British.
“Cause you know… it’s fine if you want to sleep separately… cause its early days or whatever and um… yes… so I don’t mind either way… I mean its what you want… I mean it is like… not a house… it’s a hotel… so there is other people and they might… assume things…” Gary was well aware he was blathering. Damn.
Mark rolled his eyes. “Just get them to push them together Gaz.”
Gary breathed an inward sigh of relief. Only to stiffen again, he didn’t have anything to wear in bed. Shit. Whenever Mark slept round he always had some kind of pajamas but he hadn’t thought to pack them in the rush of things. He’d just have to sleep in his clothes, Gary decided. Yes, that’s what he’d do. Relaxing again, he followed Mark out the door.
***
Sliding his arm round Kate’s slim waist, Robbie drew her towards him. Michael Buble’s voice sung out from the radio. Kate smiled up at him as they danced from side to side. He smiled back. What a few months it had been, sure they’d fought bitterly from time to time but more than that they would enjoy moments like this, slow dancing in their hotel room, kissing on bridges and playing 20 questions in traffic jams.
Leaning down he pressed his lips against hers. He had never known the way to stay in a relationship was to fight; if you don’t argue those disagreements would fester until they cracked the relationship in two. Kate accepted his kiss. Sure he drove her completely crazy but maybe that was the way it was meant to be… in the end there is no place she would rather be.
***
Howard sat back in his chair; the music was loud but good. Chloe, Rachel, Sue, Nikki and Kennedy had insisted he go out for at least a little bit. Howard hadn’t wanted a proper bachelor party, why would he want to celebrate his last day of being single when he was looking forward to being married so much more? Sure, Jason and himself had a deeply emotional relationship that he knew was going to be for life, but the wedding just confirmed it. It confirmed in his heart that he was never going to loose Jason to another man. They were pledging their love for each other, celebrating it and it was going to be magnificent.
Nikki shoved a beer into his hand. “So, come on, tell us something you’ll miss about being single?” She grinned at him.
The girls laughed. “No!” Cried Kennedy. “Tell us something you love about Jason?”
The girls nodded leaning forward in an attempt to hear him over the music.
“I’m going to miss… Um… I suppose the spontaneity of just meeting someone new and just finding out all about them… and I love Jason’s…” Howard smiled. God, to pick one thing! He loved the way Jason owned the room without being noisy, he loved the way he threw back his head when he laughed, he loved the way Jason would hold his hand…
“His bum?” Rachel grinned. “He does have a lovely bum.”
Chloe hit her in the arm. “Rachel!”
The girls fell about giggling.
“Seriously though.” Nikki said, slapping Howard’s shoulder. “Fair play, Jason is hot stuff.”
Kennedy raised her glass in the air. “To Howard and Jason and their ever lasting love! May the years to come bring laughter, excitement and adventure.”
“Cheers!”
Glasses clinked noisily. Howard laughed; tapping his bottle against the girl’s glasses he took a sip of its contents. He had a warm feeling in his stomach, everything was good. He felt happy… it was nice, he was marrying the man he loved and nothing was going to get in the way of their happiness.
***
Jason undid the top button of his shirt, his eyes scanning the room. It was dimply lit by a single lamp by the bed. Crossing the room he rested his hands on the windowsill and stared out at the city below him. Despite it only being early evening the city was alive with music and people. They buzzed around below him, shrieking with laughter and singing. Jason smiled. Already a police siren sounded in the distance.
In his pocket his phone buzzed.
I’m coming up now,
Can’t wait to see you. ☺
***
Gary slid between the sheets on the hotel bed. That was better. He was still wearing his trousers but had thrown on a more casual T-shirt on. Mark was still in the bathroom. Smiling softly to himself Gary let his body relax. He had done it. The wedding was tomorrow and everything was perfect, exactly how he had wanted it. The flowers were right, the place settings were right, the band was perfect and the food… my god, the food had caused him to need to sit down for a while it was so good. It was going to be an event no one would ever forget.
The bathroom door swung open and Mark entered the room wearing only his boxer shorts. His shirt was flung over his shoulder, he discarded it into the corner of the room. Gary’s mouth was suddenly very dry… damn, it was hot in here. Why do they always make hotel rooms so damn hot? He would have a few words with the manager tomorrow about getting some air conditioning.
Mark slid in beside him and turned to smile at him. “Well Gaz you did it, the wedding is beauti- why are you still wearing your clothes?” Mark said laughing as he lifted the sheets.
Gary opened his mouth and closed it again. “Well I forgot to pack something to sleep in.”
Mark raised his eyebrows. “And your issue with sleeping in your underwear like a normal person is…?”
Gary sighed and sat up. “Look the thing is that… well… I don’t look like you guys.” He said, rushing his words. “I’m not ‘toned’ or whatever… I don’t want you to be disappointed.” Gary looked down slightly embarrassed. He had never hidden that he had issues with his weight, but then he’d never really talked about it either. He would make jokes but it was hard when Jason, Howard and Mark were so perfect.
Mark sat up beside him. “Don’t be ridiculous Gaz, I promise I will not be disappointed.” He grinned. “Stop being so bloody British and sleep beside me in normal attire.” Leaning over he kissed Gary.
Mark couldn’t believe Gary still worried about the way he looked. God, he could just kill all those heartless fucking journalists who would attack Gary. Mark swore if he read one more thing on the way Gary looked he would personally make sure that journalist never worked again.
Gary soon forgot what his problem had been the first place, but then he always did when he was with Mark. Mark had a way of taking away of all his troubles. Gary could hardly believe how lucky he was to be in love with such a fantastic man.
Mark couldn’t bring himself to tell Gary about what he had overheard Jason talking about. Gary had worked so hard on this wedding and Mark knew it would destroy him. Plus this was the first time they had kissed without being instantly interrupted, there was no way in hell Mark was going to be the one to ruin it. Mark resolved that once Gary was asleep he would walk down to Jason’s room and outright confront him about it. If Jason really was… well… sleeping with someone else Mark would have to say something to Gary, the wedding would probably be cancelled. Mark didn’t want to worry Gary until he was absolutely sure it was the truth. Howard would be crushed, Gary would be crushed… Christ knows what would happen.
Mark pushed any thoughts of the wedding and Jason out of his head and concentrated on the man sat beside him. A fire had lit in his belly and as they kissed it got worse until he could hardly stand it, the only way to keep it under control was to move closer to Gary. Gary seemed to be suffering from the same kind of feeling as he welcomed the closeness. A smile crept over Mark’s lips, Jesus he had waited so long for this but God it was worth it.
And then Gary’s phone began to ring. Gary promptly stopped kissing Mark and answered it.
“Hello?” He said. “What? No! Why would they send the flowers to the hotel and not the venue? Well no one has enough car space to take all those bloody flowers in the morning!” Gary slid off the side of the bed and wondered into the bathroom and closed the door behind him, still talking angrily into the phone.
Mark let his head fall back against the wall and let out a groan of frustration. Jesus Christ, he was starting to hate those bloody flowers with a passion. Grumbling he pulled his clothes on roughly, he supposed he should go and talk to Jason now that clearly whatever had been about to happen between him and Gary was over. Mark wasn’t even sure he wanted it anymore, if those fucking flowers meant more to Gary than him then fine. Okay, Mark admitted that was a lie, he did want it. Storming out of the room he slammed the door behind him. Not that he expected Gary to hear him leave; he was too busy shouting at the flower people.
Mark walked miserably down the hallway. Perhaps he could stay in Ben Mark’s room tonight, Ben always knew what to say and how to sort things out. Mark had heard he had gotten married recently as well. Laura, he thought her name was. Ben wouldn’t shut up about her whenever they spoke on the phone, Laura this, Laura that… Mark shook his head. Must be nice to have someone who is your number one priority. Mark bet neither Laura nor Ben would put flowers above each other. Setting his mouth in a grim line he took a deep breath and opened the door to Jason’s hotel room.

“No, no, no I want the drapes beside the windows, not over the windows! Why would I want drapes over the windows? It will block out all the bloody light!” Gary threw his arms up in the air in exasperation. God, you want something done properly you have to do the damn thing yourself.
Jason raised his eyebrows as he sat down on a chair draped with white cloth next to Howard. Despite the fact that Gary had truly gone over the top with the decorations for the Donald-Orange wedding, Jason did have to admit the place did look pretty magical. Outside people buzzed around like bees stringing up fairy lights in the porch and placing flowers in every spare corner. Jason was also pretty sure he had seen an ice sculpture being wheeled into the foyer.
“When we told Gary we wanted a simple wedding how much of that went in?” Jason said laughing.
Howard shook his head, laughing as well. “All of it except the word ‘simple’.”
The big double doors at the end of the hall swung open and Mark strode in. He was still getting used to walking, after spending so long in a wheelchair. It had taken him a while to get used the metal plates in his knees as well but he was getting there. Squinting his eyes against the sunlight that spilled into the room he watched as Gary, muttering to himself, strung up huge white drapes along the walls.
“Did they get the drapes wrong again?” Mark said grinning.
Howard nodded. “I thought they looked fine but then that’s Gaz.”
Mark slumped down beside him. “Tell me about it, we got into bed last night and I reached over to kiss him but before I could get anywhere near him he started on a rant that lasted half an hour about how the table cloths were cream when he had specifically asked for ‘crystal white’ and I am telling you, table cloths? Not exactly an aphrodisiac.”
Jason snorted. “We’re sorry we’ve stolen Gaz from you these past few months.”
Mark looked grim. It was true. It had been 4 months since Gary and himself had admitted their true feelings for each other and although Mark often stayed the night at Gaz’s they had yet to consummate their relationship. Mark wasn’t quite sure why this was; perhaps Gary was just to stressed out by the wedding… but as the months passed by Mark had certainly began worrying about it. He had tried to ask Gaz about it the other night but before he could get anything out his mouth Gary got a call from the caterer to inform him they could no longer do the salmon dish and Gary near had a nervous break down.
“Ahhh.” Gary said, evidently pleased with his handy work he turned to the guys. “Don’t you just love weddings?”
Howard and Jason smiled at each other and shared a brief kiss. Mark grinned.
“Hello by the way.” Mark said.
Gary turned his smiling eyes to Mark. “Hello.” He said leaning down and kissing Mark. “Sorry I was distracted by the drapes, how long have you been here?”
Mark rolled his eyes. “And I love you too.”
Gary looked sheepish. He supposed he had been letting the wedding control his life, well he just wanted everything to look perfect and that was easier said than done. He’d already made it up in his head that as soon as the wedding was over he would surprise Mark with something. Although he had no idea what… Mark wasn’t a man who wanted for much, unlike Gary; Mark didn’t really do presents or romantic gestures. Gary had spent a while brainstorming what he could do but had come up with nothing. He’d asked Rachel, who had suggested he do something in the bedroom, which had caused Gary to need to lie down for a while. Because what Gary hadn’t told Mark is that… he had only really got… intimate with one person and that whole thing had turned into a total disaster, which had left him fairly shy of such things. What if he wasn’t any good? What if he didn’t know what to do? Actually Gary was pretty sure he would have no idea what to do but he couldn’t bring himself to ask anyone. He supposed he had been using the stress of the wedding to put off having what will be an extremely awkward conversation with Mark.
Gary sighed. It wasn’t that he didn’t… want to, it was just that he didn’t want to ruin what he had with Mark if it turned out he was crap. Gary valued his relationship with Mark too much to put it in jeopardy. He supposed he could ask Jason or something… Although Gary wasn’t really comfortable talking about… that stuff. With one last look at Mark he returned to the job at hand. The Donald-Orange wedding was truly going to be a spectacular event.
Mark watched as Gary walked away from him again and slumped down in his chair evidently frustrated with the whole situation. Gary was so damn hard to read sometimes. Getting up he walked off to get some air.
Jason’s phone buzzed in his pocket and he reached to answer it… the name flashed up on his screen and his heart skipped a beat. Reddening he shot up out of his chair.
Howard raised his eyebrows. “Where are you off to so fast?”
Jason looked slightly pained. “Um, do you think it’s okay if I leave a little early?”
Howard grinned. Gary was insisting that Jason and Howard sleep in separate hotels the night before their wedding, as much as they had both protested Gary would have none of it and was personally escorted Howard to his hotel room to make sure he was well and truly alone.
“You go, I’ll say goodbye to Mark and take Gary’s car.” Howard said smiling. He couldn’t believe the night before their wedding had finally come. He felt sick, scared, excited and breathless all at the same time and it was wonderful.
Jason leaned down and kissed him. “See you tomorrow then…” He said smiling.
Howard nodded. “Tomorrow… yeah.”
Jason picked up his coat and with one last kiss walked out the door. The next time he would walk through them would be as a married man. Howard shook his head. It’s a crazy, crazy world.
***
“I told you not to call during the day… what if Howard had seen… he might have questions.” Jason whispered into his phone. He was stood in the hallway with all the coats; his eyes darted around the room making sure he was definitely alone.
He smiled. “I can’t wait to see you either.”
Leaning back against the coats he ran his hand through his hair. “I’ve been thinking about you.”
“I’ll see you tonight, you’ve got my hotel right?” Jason smiled again and made his way out of the door.
The door swung closed and Mark stepped out from behind one of the coats, his face red and his heart hammering. He hadn’t meant to be there when Jason had hurried in with his phone pressed to his ear… Mark had only come in to get his coat. It would have been too late anyway, Mark had heard everything.
